Bio
Steve is a Fellow of the CPA's of Alberta. He practiced in the area of corporate restructuring, insolvency and investigative accounting and throughout his career was involved in some of the most high profile and complex files in Alberta. He is a graduate of the University of Calgary and holds the ICD.D designation.
Steve is proud to have served the Province as Commissioner of the Alberta Public Inquiry into Foreign Funding of Anti-Alberta Energy Campaigns from July 2019 - July 2021.
Steve is Past Chair of the Board of Calgary Economic Development, Chair of the McMahon Stadium Society, and is Board Vice-Chair of Neyaskweyahk Trust of the Ermineskin Cree Nation. Steve served as Chair of the Canadian Tourism Commission (now Destination Canada), Co-chair of the Calgary Poverty Reduction Initiative and Chaired the Committee to Refresh Calgary's Economic Strategy. Steve serves on the boards of three private companies, as well as on the Executive Committee of the Top 7 Over 70, which he helped to launch in 2017.
Steve is a 50 year volunteer with the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede and served as President and Chair of the Board of the Stampede, as well as Chair of the Stampede Foundation.
He is Past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta and has volunteered for the Institute (now CPA Alberta) throughout his career.
Steve has been a committed member of the Rotary Club of Calgary since 1980 and served as Club President in 1994-95. He served as Governor of Rotary District #5360 and remains active with Rotary focused on early childhood literacy, youth at risk, and Indigenous relations.
Steve has served as Trustee of the Calgary Zoological Society, a Director of the Calgary Foundation, a Director of University Technologies Inc. and a member of the Committee to End Homelessness in Calgary. He also served as a Governor of the University of Calgary for five years.
Steve was invested into the Alberta Order of Excellence in 2017. He was recognized as Calgary's 'Citizen of the Year"​ for 2006, honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Institute of Chartered Accountants and was named Distinguished Alumni of the Year by the Calgary Board of Education. He is extremely proud to be an Honorary Treaty Seven Chief, Aa-koh-hkii-to-pii-"Rides Many Horses".
A former marathoner, Steve still enjoys running, fitness, skiing, cycling, and golf.
